Lighting for ADR1Ft was challenging as the Northstar IV space station was ripped apart and lying in scattered pieces which were all pitched, rotated, and yawed at at any given angle. I developed a parenting scheme that allowed me to attach lighting rigs to the major pieces. Lighting in 6 DOF was one of the more exciting dev experiences I’ve had.
The lighting was statically baked. The Directional light in the exterior was stationary. I animated it’s color to align with the Earth’s when at night. Post Proc volumes were blueprints that used an attachment dummy. Lighting and post were organized using a number of essential presets which could be altered en seine. Reflection spheres where used per interior scene and were also placed around the exteriors. SSR was disabled as it’s not a good use case for VR.
